Why? Because some people consider them to be "tricks" or a "short-cut" to real memory. But consider this: the line between "artificial" memory and "natural" memory is hard to define and the two cross over.
The Genius of Mnemonics
Did you know that the genius Einstein used mnemonics? But it seems unless we hammer ourselves into boredom and giving up with route memory, there is no other way to memorize that is "legit." Apparently Einstein wasn't so smart after all if he chose to use mnemonics. Not to mention St. Augustine, Aquinas and many others. How very sad to take this view! Why would you want to work harder and retain less information? For the sake of appearances? To look "smart"? Utter rubbish! Well, get busy looking smart - the real "smart" people are using mnemonics to remember more information in a day than others do in a month or more.
Give Harry Lorayne the Proper Respect, Please!
I am in full agreement with Harry Lorayne, who, in my opinion, has not received proper credit for his promotion of mnemonics and his systems, that there is no memory challenge that cannot be met with a mnemonic device.
The fact is, without the promotional efforts and genius of the "Link System" by Harry Lorayne since the 70s, mnemonics would not have the place in modern society that they do today. Thanks Mr. Loryane!

Learn the Basics of Mnemonics - Get Smart!
